When I was a child Christmas Cookies were a big deal. Who am I kidding? Christmas Cookies are still a big deal. But we had very specific traditions when I was little. Every year we made the same cookies: cookie gun cookies (aka sprite cookies, but back I the day we had a fancy electric cookie gun), butter cookie sandwiches with chocolate frosting filling, Linzer tarts (my favorite), rum ball, and pecan snowballs. When I first went out on my own I made all these cookies every year too. (And a lot of others).

But then my son was diagnosed with nut allergies and half my Christmas cookies were off that table. Literally. Over time, I added new recipes. And developed new, safe versions of familiar favorite. Like these chocolate chip snowball cookies.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies:

Chocolate chop snowball cookies are so easy to make. All you need is half an hour. At the end of thirty minutes you can be enjoying a delicious cookies.

Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet (or two) with parchment paper.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat together 1 cup softened butter and 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar. Once they are light and fluffy, add 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and mix well. The stir in 2 1/4 cups all purpose f!our. You can keep using the electric mixer, just mix on low.

Continue mixing just until the dough comes together. It will be slightly crumbly.

Stir in 1 cup dark chocolate chips. I like to use these Enjoy Life allergen free mini chips in my chocolate chip snowball cookies. It gives you the perfect ratio of cookie to chocolate.

Roll the dough into one inch balls and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Don’t make the balls too big. Chocolate chip snowball cookies are best when tin.

Bake in your preheated 375 degree oven for 8-12 minutes, just until the edges of the chocolate chip snowball cookies are lightly browned.

Allow to cool slightly, and then roll in remaining powdered sugar. If you want the cookies to be whiter, repeat.

Notes

Store covered in airtight container for up to 1 week.
Can be frozen. Simply reroll in confectioners sugar after you defrost at room temperature.
