3 Spooky Halloween Cocktails Even the Spirits Will Love
Halloween is fast approaching. And if you haven’t noticed, I LOVE Halloween. Give me all the spooky, spine-tingling, scares! So this week I had fun creating 3 new Halloween cocktails.
I love to go all in for holidays. Think decorations, candles, book, movies, playlists, food, and, of course, drinks.
So, although we aren’t hosting a Halloween party this year, I decided to whip a batch of Halloween cocktails. Well, three batches to be precise. I made Witch’s Brew, Midnight Martinis, and Drunken Pumpkin Cocktails.
Witch’s Brew
I know I shouldn’t play favorites, but this is my favorite Halloween Cocktail. Witch’s Brew is a pretty purple concoction that is a my take on a berry margarita. I used a combination of blueberry lemonade and raspberry liqueur for a complex berry taste.
I love the color and the flavor and the pretty purple sugar rimmed glass. Plus, this eyeball ice cubes really give this Halloween cocktail a spooky vibe.
The first step to make Witch’s Brew is to place eyeball candy in the wells of an ice cube tray. Fill with water and freeze until solid, about 3 hours. I actually found eyeball ice trays at Target. But just about any store carries eyeball candy in a bag that you can add to your own ice cube trays.
Then place some purple sanding sugar on a small dish. You can also color your own sugar. Put 1/4 cup of sugar in a bowl and add a few drops of purple food coloring and mix. But beware, this option is messy and if you mix it with your fingers they will be stained purple.
Then rub some lemonade on the rim of the glass and dip rim in sanding sugar and set aside.
In a cocktail shaker, combine 4 ounces blueberry lemonade, 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce Chambord and 1/2 ounce Cointreau and shake to combine.
Add ice to your glass, being careful not to disturb the sugar. Strain Witch’s Brew over ice.
Add an eyeball ice cube to the top of the drink and serve immediately.

Notes
You can find eyeball candy in the Halloween section of most large grocery stores. I even found eyeball ice cube trays at Target.
Midnight Martini
This black-as-night Halloween cocktail is delightfully spooky, but oh-so-delicious. If you like coffee, you are going to love the Midnight Martini.
I was inspired by the popular Black Russian for this drink. When I was younger, I drank a lot of Kahlua and Cream. That was my mother’s-in-law signature drink and she offered it up any time I visited, which was nearly daily since she lived five minutes away.
That was a long time ago and I can’t remember the last time I had Kahlua. But I wanted to a dark cocktail without resorting to food coloring (messy), charcoal pills (complicated), or squid ink (eww). So I figured why not start with a dark liqueur?
To intensify the “black” color (and dilute the alcohol), I added some cold brew coffee and some blk water. According to its website, blk water “is the most delicious, healthy, all-natural functional drink in the world, with electrolytes, antioxidants, and fulvic minerals to supercharge your health so you can get more out of life.” The black color comes from humic acid, not charcoal. I found blk in my local grocery store, but if you can’t find it (or are just turned off by black water, you can skip it. It’s not even a true black–more like the same dark brown of black coffee.
To make this Halloween cocktail start by prepping your sugar. Place black sanding sugar on a plate. If you don’t have black sugar, you can use the method above to color your own, just use black food coloring. But it is easy to buy black sugar in any baking aisle this time of year.
Dip the rim of a martini glass into water and then coat with black sugar.
In a cocktail shaker, combine 3 ounces cold brew coffee, 1 ounce Kahlua, 2 ounces vodka, 1 ounce blk, and half an ounce of simple syrup. Shake to combine.
Strain into martini glass and serve immediately.

Ingredients
- black sanding sugar
- 3 oz. cold brew coffee
- 1 oz. Kahlua
- 2 oz. vodka
- 1 oz. blk. natural mineral alkaline water
- 1 tbsp. simple syrup
Instructions
- Place black sanding sugar on a plate.
- Dip rim of glass into water and then coat with black sugar.
- In a cocktail shaker, combine 3 ounces cold brew coffee, 1 ounce Kahlua, 2 ounces vodka, 1 ounce blk, and half an ounce of simple syrup. Shake to combine.

Notes
The blk helps to dilute the drink a bit, the way ice would in a traditional black Russian. But you can omit this step if you want your drink stronger. You can also substitute regular water for the blk.
Drunken Pumpkin Cocktail
Our last Halloween cocktail is a Drunken Pumpki cocktail. And I saved this one for last because it tastes like dessert. You can think of the Drunken Pumpkin as an adult boozy ice-cream soda. Because if there’s any holiday that calls for boozy ice-cream it’s got to be Halloween.
Pumpkin ice-cream gives this Halloween cocktail it’s name. I let the ice cream sit on my counter for awhile so it was nice and soft before I scooped it into the glass. And a duo of flavored-cocktails give the dessert theme going.
The first step in making a Drunken Pumpkin is to place orange sanding sugar on a small plate. You can find orange sugar in most baking aisles during the fall.
Then coat the rim of a large glass with cream soda and dip into the sanding sugar. Carefully, place 1 large scoop of pumpkin ice cream into the glass. Then add 1 ounce cake-flavored vodka and 1 ounce whipped cream vodka. Feel free to substitute other flavors of vodka like vanilla, caramel, or toasted marshmallow for one or both of the vodkas. You can also use just one flavor and one shot of regular vodka if you prefer things less sweet.
Top with 6-8 ounces of cream soda. Maple cream soda is also delicious if you can find it. My local grocery store carries this variety in the fall.
Decorate with a candy pumpkin, if desired.
